![]() ![]() Although you'd be a little freaked out by the time-travel bit, you'd be able to deal because it's explained briefly in the book. Were you to pick it up first and read it all by itself, you'd still have a pretty good idea what's going on - at least as much an idea as a person would have, having read it all. I believe that one of the reasons it succeeded in winning the award was that, although it is book four in a five-book series, it is also a self-contained story. The Grey King won the Newbery when it came out (noteworthy because it is in the middle of a series, folks, although in fairness, one of Lloyd Alexander's did that as well seven years earlier). ![]() It looked like a dark grey German shepherd, which of course made little sense since the key dog in the book is white, but hey, whatev, and on with the review.
