![]() We find out immediately that people do not do this, when Nadia (the main character) remembers her father taking the books of her mother and sisters and replacing them with books he’d written that claimed he was dead. ![]() Society demands you write everything– good and bad– so you always have a record of who you are. People carry books with them everywhere, bound to their bodies, and spend every night recording their lives. The Forgetting features is based in the city of Canaan, where every 12 years, everyone in the city forgets everything about their lives. There is some reference to the older generation, but for the most part, this series is a meditation on the idea of memory, told in the same world.
